Switchback Travel
Switchback Travel, a leading outdoor adventure website, is looking to expand our team with qualified individuals. Prerequisites include enthusiasm and knowledge of the outdoors, strong writing and communication skills, attention to detail, and an understanding of Switchback Travel’s voice. In addition to the postings listed below, we do consider specific projects and articles on a case-by-case basis. Please send your resume, cover letter, relevant work samples, and proposals to [email protected].
Switchback is looking for a high-energy, creative wordsmith with a passion for the outdoors to help grow high-quality, snow-sports-focused gear reviews and buyer’s guides. The Affiliate Editor, Snowsports establishes review methodology and assigns, writes, and edits publication-ready content that informs and engages readers and catalyzes purchase behavior. This role is explicitly responsible for monitoring and growing affiliate revenue while maintaining journalistic integrity.
Ideal candidates will be talented writers with strong communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical information in a way that’s easy to process for the reader. Possessing a wide knowledge of different facets of the skiing and snowboarding industry is a must, as you’ll be helping us recommend the best tools, apparel, and gear to our readers across the globe. The position is remote, so reliable internet access, the ability to self-regulate, and on-time delivery are required. The preferred candidate will also be willing to travel once or twice a year for on-location testing and photoshoots with a team. Preference will go to applicants with backcountry experience and proficiency.
This position will start as a 40-hour contract role with the potential to convert to a salaried, benefits-eligible position in approximately 6 months. This position is remote, and someone in Washington State or the Lake Tahoe region is preferred. The expected compensation for this position is $55,000-$65,000 per year based on skills, experience, and geographic location.
To apply, please send a resume, cover letter, and any relevant photography and writing samples to [email protected] with the subject: “Snowsports Editor, Switchback Travel.” Please be specific about your area of expertise (skiing, snow/splitboarding, backcountry experience, etc.) We will respond to high-quality candidates as quickly as possible.
We are excited to add qualified Outdoor Gear Testers to our growing team. The position is remote—we are primarily located in the western half of the US—but you can live and work anywhere with good outdoor access.
For consideration, please send a resume, cover letter, and writing samples to [email protected] with "Outdoor Gear Tester" in the subject line. We cannot respond to every application individually but will follow up with qualified candidates as quickly as possible. Thanks for your time!
